application compatibility group

Is there going to be an application compatibility reporting group out there ? Some of my older apps just dont want to run , or even Install! Sony LocationFree player the serial number did not make it so I un-installed it and when I try to re-install it after I enter the proper serial number the Next Button is light, but it does not go one to install.
Is there a Install in compatibility mode?
